eJMT Abstract

These notes are concerned with the numerical resolution of Partial Differential Equations (PDE) by the Finite Element Method (FEM). Emphasis is placed in the practical numerical resolution of this type of problems by using the free software FreeFem++. Theoretical background is briefly reviewed (without entering into technical details) and a number of examples are given, along with the code. The goal is to introduce in a simple way this difficult (but very interesting in real-world applications) topic to undergraduate students who do not have a solid background both in variational methods and in numerical analysis for PDE.
