We are actively engaged in collaborative research projects involving students, faculty, local organizations and businesses.  If anyone is interesting in working with the center please contact one of our center’s associates.

Current Research:

  • In collaboration with RU sustainABILITY and the RU GIS Center we are working on developing a campus sustainability map and mobile phone application.  The map will highlight areas on campus that promote conservation and sustainability.
  • Students from RU Geospatial Science are working with Dr. Andrew Foy on a student/faculty research project that stemmed from a Keep Virginia Beautiful grant.  The purpose of the grant was to design a campus cigarette litter prevention campaign.  The students are currently studying the spatial distribution and pattern of cigarette litter on campus.  They want to see if there are any spatial relationships between litter density, non-smoking zones, and ashtray locations on campus.  The results will be presented by two RU students at the national AAG conference in Feb. of 2012.  Link to abstract.
