Below is the email from a local person; let me know if you're considering this. (If two or more groups are interested in this, I'd like to know soon. And if you're tentatively-in a group that is not doing this, and would love to find a group that *is* doing this, let me know too and I can connect y'all.) Much of the project is "just" building a static website -- they don't have the interest nor expertise of somebody who'll learn SQL, or even if they never touch SQL they may not be up to maintaining/install patches on a db-server. Instead, you'll have different challenges: How to let them update their "upcoming-events" in a way that's easy (maybe a local file they keep, and your program reads from that file, rather than writing stuff to a DB that needs to be maintained). Your main goal would be to make the client happy, and you'd be subject to different evaluation than other groups. (And if you *did* have thoughts on how to include more advanced features that they *would* be able to maintain, then extra-cool! E.g., a Microsoft Access db, is that still a thing?) ==== I am seeking a class who would be interested in building a website for achurch. We have never had a website and want to use it for a wide variety of items. As we have limited funds (very) I wanted to see if an undergraduate class would take this on as a special project or if a group of students would be interested in doing this to fulfil a required project in one of the technology classes. [Some ideas for what things we might include on our site:] Service and Missions: service projects the church itself participates in as well as the national order of Church of the Brethren, i.e., Christmas Child Shoeboxes that are shipped overseas; disaster relief (we participate locally as well, i.e., Pulaski rebuilding; community events which we sponsor/participate - Relay for Life, etc.; The ability to put some specific things as they come up - we do large benefits for persons/families with ongoing critical illnesses; maybe be able to also have a method to put updates for community functions we support, i.e., Angels In The Attic and partnering with community special interest groups with a Christian purpose. Resources: Have a couple of recorded sermons that individuals accessing the site could hear - not necessary for any video on these. We already record our sermons and music weekly on CDs - maybe those could be uploaded. Be able to list readings, meditations, words of encouragement (this could be a section that we change every couple weeks or so). Recommended Readings: Suggestions for articles, books, etc. for specific needs/issues or just for strengthening one's own personal relationship with God - on some of the other sites I saw many books of faith and journey - We would want to change these or add periodically also; Membership Covenant: describes the expectations of members in the church as to relationships with family, employers, churchmembers and in the community; This would not need to be changed once set up. Family Resources: Suggested sources (specific) for varying ages and stages of family life (dealing with teen years, adjusting to the addition of a baby to the household, aging and relationship with adult children and grandchildren; Again, the ability to add or adjust the items in this category. Gospel stories - Bible stories of the gospel - could be entered in sections based upon basic needs during varying ages of a lifetime or could be simply the gospel in sections from the Bible. We would need to enter this - but may want a section that does not change also; A "What's Happening" Calendar of Events with a brief overview for each - These, of course, would need to be changed often. Church Newsletter space - This would only be viewable by the members - Thinking a password for members??? Photos - Mostly of the church and grounds - maybe some of adults - I need to clarify the issue of posting minor pictures with or without consent of the parents. Prayer List: Only viewable by members also - would have to be able to be changed/updated. Maybe a Meaningful Membership section - concerning steps to take if interesting in accepting Christ and learning more in a focused manner - This could stay the same. Classes listed by age for youth Special Bible Study Groups: Men, Women, Children Picture of Pastor and maybe Deacon Board This is kind of an overview. I have looked at Cave Spring Baptist Church, First Baptist Church, and mostly just typed in regional churches and looked at those, i.e., Christiansburg Baptist Churches, etc. Got a good variance just doing that also. I would like for those accessing the website to be able to leave a message or contact us if they desire - we have a church email already. It doesn't have to be dramatic but I would like to see it be comprehensive, informative, and provide resources to individuals who may be seeking assistance but do not want to talk face to face. Please let me know what you think about these items - I can be of further assistance if there are questions. I have asked three other members to be on this project with me also. One is the librarian for the Church who would help with the resources. I hope Radford University can assist with this - my son graduated in Spring 2012 and truly enjoyed his time there. He is now working on his Doctorate in Physical Therapy and had a strong build after completing the Sports Medicine Degree there. Again thank you for any assistance.
