About the VPN Client
The VPN client allows you to create a secure network connection back to the RU campus using most any dial-up or broadband network connection available. When connecting from off campus, the VPN client allows you to connect to on campus restricted network resources as if you were physically connected to the campus network. When connected from on campus you a secure connection is assured when using certain administrative systems such as Internet Native Banner, etc.
The University provides VPN (Virtual Private Network) access to faculty, staff and students, to allow for secure access to network resources, both on-campus and off-campus. Users must first have some type of network access (through an Ethernet cable in their office, through a wireless connection, through dial-up or broadband from home) before they can use the VPN software. “Making a VPN connection” requires starting the VPN software, providing a username and password, and negotiating a connection between the computer and the VPN system.
