About VACURH

The Virginia Association of College and University Residence Halls, or VACURH, is a student-run leadership coalition which provides representation, communication and leadership development to campus residents Virginia institutions of higher education.

Founded in 1983, VACURH provides numerous ways for resident student governments to interact and develop with eachother in a forum that is creative, open and diverse. Two annual conferences give members an opportunity to meet, share ideas, discuss problems and encourage eachother towards solutions.

VACURH strives to recognize the accomplishments of all those members and contituents who perform above and beyond that required of a student leader. Through a program of Of the Month awards, VACURH and the National Residence Hall Honarary - a national honor organization - work closely together to recognize those who are exemplars of student leadership.

Member schools also participate in regional and national organizations, the South Atlantic Affiliate and National Association of College and University Residence Halls. Though not directly affiliated with these organizations, VACURH shares their purposes and frequently serves as a stepping-stone to greater involvement and leadership in them.

Organizationally, VACURH consists of two bodies, the General Assembly and the Board of Directors. A representative from each member school makes up the General Assembly. The Board of Directors is elected by the Assembly to serve a term of one year.
