SEMINAR LEARNING GOALS

Goal One:

Each seminar participant using information presented by subject matter experts will learn the reasons for the underlying geopolitical and strategic value of Syria and major power involvement.

GoalTwo:

Each seminar participant will learn about the geographic scale and patterns of insurgent movments, incumbent government forces, ethnic and religious minorities involved and their areas of operation and control.  A priority will be placed on information leading to the understanding of competing forces fighting for control of Syria’s economic and civil infrastructure relative to the incountry of human geography of diversity(Shia v.Sunni and Kurd v. Arab).

Goal Three:

Information relative to Syria’s geostrategic position and regional importance will be presented and discussed.A weak and unstable Syria invites involvement by not only regional powers such as Saudi Arabia and Iran but world powers and their allies such as Russia(China), the U.S. and Israel as well.

Goal Four:

Each participant will have the opportunity to learn and use classroom GIS resources commonly available to K-12 teachers and university students analyze and reinforce information presented and discussed during the course of the Syrian Holocaust seminar.
