National Geographic GeoBEE

2020 Virginia State Geographic Bee Cancelled due to COVID-19

General Information:  National Geographic Bee

The National Geographic Society has sponsored the Geographic Bee at both the state and national level since the 1980’s. The Virginia Geographic Alliance has provided leadership and assistance to the Virginia Bee coordinator.

The Virginia Bee is an opportunity for Virginia students, schools and teachers to highlight geography in their schools. Briefly stated, schools with students in grades 4-8 are eligible to participate in this annual competition.  Principals can find out how to register their schools by going to: https://geobee-registration.nationalgeographic.com/register-now.  Schools that register to conduct a school level Bee, receive all of the contest materials and information they need.  The school contest, with a minimum of six students participating, produces one school winner.  That one school Bee winner takes a qualifying test to determine the top 100 scoring students in each state who are invited to the state level Bees.  The winner of the Virginia Bee represents Virginia at the national finals in Washington, DC.  Check with your school to see if they participate in this annual event.

Registration for the 2019-2020 school year is now open.

The National Geographic Bee registration fee is $120 per school. From December 22, 2018 until registration ends on January 25, 2019 payment must be by credit card. Schools needing financial support can complete a Registration Discount Request form available here.

2020 Virginia State Bee will be held March 27, 2020 at Longwood University
in Farmville, VA.
