Water: The Essential Resource
National Geographic Education and Annenberg Learner invite you to join us this fall for a FREE, 8-week online teacher professional development course, Water: The Essential Resource. This course focuses on ocean and freshwater systems and incorporating strategies for teaching environmental topics. Designed for 4th-8th grade teachers, this experience supports the California Environmental Education Initiative (EEI).
Teachers taking this course will:
- Increase their environmental science content knowledge
- Develop an understanding of the importance of water in Earth’s natural systems
- Have access to National Geographic explorers and scientists
- Prepare classroom content using engaging and effective instructional strategies
- Be part of a statewide, collaborative online community
- Receive continuing education credit upon completion of course

The course is scheduled October 9 through December 11 (8 weeks) and will include a total of 45 hours of instruction.
This course is based on 4th-8th grade California science and social studies standards and environmental principles and concepts, but enrollment is open to all teachers. This course is not to be confused with the course being developed for and offered to the Chesapeake Bay NOAA participants. It is a separate course open to all teachers.
