Akhil Rekulapelli from Ashburn’s Stone Hill Middle School, was the winner of the Virginia finals of the National Geographic Bee held a Longwood University on April 4. Rahul Gupta from Nysmith School in Herndon was runner-up, and Jacob Augelli of James Robinson Jr. Secondary school in Fairfax placed third. Congratulations to all students who participated in the Bee, winners all.

The top three finalists received weather stations from Plum Creek, a corporate sponsor of the Bee, which also provided Akhil with his family’s choice of airfare to or hotel accommodations in Washington, D. C., when he competes at the National Bee.
Google Earth was also a corporate sponsor, while Herff Jones|Nystrom gave all participants a copy of their Junior Geographer Atlas.
